Order Editing on the Thank You and Order Status Pages

New Feature: Post-Checkout Address Editing

Written by Osmand
Updated this week

We’re excited to introduce a new feature in Address Validator that allows customers to edit their shipping address after completing checkout, even if the address has already been validated.

This gives your customers a second chance to fix mistakes and helps prevent failed deliveries, returns, and support tickets.

Important Requirement

To use this feature, you must have Post-Checkout Validation enabled.

This means:

  • The Address Validator app block must be added to your Thank You / Order Status page

Without this setup, customers will not be able to edit their address after checkout.

Video Guide:

Why This Feature Matters

Address issues don’t always come from invalid entries. In many cases, customers may:

  • Select a saved address that isn’t correct

  • Enter a valid address that belongs to someone else

  • Be sending a gift and accidentally use the wrong shipping details

  • Realize a mistake after completing checkout

With this feature, customers can update their address post-checkout, regardless of whether:

  • They passed validation during checkout, or

  • They were never prompted to validate their address

How It Works

Address Validator > Essential Setup > Address Prompts > Order editing on the Thank You and Order Status pages >

Once enabled, customers will see an option to edit their shipping address on the:

  • Thank You page

  • Order Status page

How to Configure the Edit Time Window

You can control how long customers have to update their address after checkout:

Steps:

  1. Go to Address Validator

  2. Navigate to Settings

  3. Click General

  4. Open Advanced Options

  5. Adjust:
“How much time does the customer have to update the order after the checkout is complete?”

This allows you to balance flexibility for customers while keeping fulfillment timelines on track.

Optional Settings: Control What Customers Can Change

To help you avoid unexpected changes to taxes or shipping rates, we provide two optional settings:

Allow customers to change the state

  • Changing the state may affect taxes on the order

  • Tax recalculation is not automatic

  • Review your store tax settings if changes are made

Allow customers to change the country

  • Changing the country may affect:

    • Shipping rates

    • VAT

    • Import duties

  • These are not recalculated automatically

  • Review and adjust charges if needed

Conclusion

With Post-Checkout Address Editing, you give your customers flexibility while protecting your business from costly delivery issues.

By allowing address updates even after validation, you ensure:

  • Fewer failed deliveries

  • Better customer experience

  • Reduced support workload
